Vienna : The Burgtheater

The Burgtheater at Dr.-Karl-Lueger-Ring in Vienna is an Austrian Federal Theatres . It is considered one of the most important stages in Europe and is the Comédie-Française , the second oldest in Europe, as well as the largest German-language theater . The original "old" Castle Theater at St. Michael's Square was recorded from 1748 until the opening of the new house on the ring in October 1888. The new house burned down in 1945 completely due to bomb attacks, pending the re-opening on 14 October 1955 was the Ronacher as temporary quarters. The Burgtheater is considered Austrian National Theater . ^[1]

Throughout its history the theater was wearing different names, first imperial theater next to the castle , then to 1918 kk Hof-Burgtheater and since then the Burgtheater . Especially in Vienna, it is often just "The Castle" called the ensemble members are known as Castle actresses . Director of the House since 2009, Matthias Hartmann .[~wikipedia]
